Investment in Korean small and medium companies, which has been stalled in recent years by the staggering economy, could get a boost from foreign investors here who launched a Foreign Institutional Investors' Association yesterday, the Small and Medium Business Administration said.
JAFCO Investment Korea, AIG Investment Corp, Nokia Venture Partners, Intel Capital and IBM Korea are among the 20 members of the new foreign investors' association.
The Small and Medium Business Administration said there were currently 60 foreign interests actively investing in Korea.
According to the administration, the foreign investors' association will form a pool of foreign investment institutions interested in equity investment in Korean small and medium companies and exchange information among its members.
"Many foreign investors have found it difficult to invest in Korean small and medium companies because of a lack of information," said Suh Seung-won of the Small and Medium Business Administration. "The launching of the foreign investors' association will help them out of financial difficulty."
"Through frequent exchange of information, the association will act as a global gateway to investment in Korean companies," said Richard Joung, vice president and general manager of JAFCO Investment Korea. The group is planning to register a non-profit organization with the government for its work.
