The Incheon FEZ, which will be a self-sufficient city accommodating an estimated 487,300 residents, is comprised of three smaller areas _ Songdo, Yeongjong and Cheongna _ each of which is designed to possess distinctive features.
Of the three smaller districts in the Incheon FEZ, the New Songdo City has attracted the most attention from investors.
The New Songdo City, the world¡¯s largest private-run development project, on land of 53 square kilometers, will be home to international businesses and knowledge-based information technology industrial complexes and be equipped with a ubiquitous telecommunications infrastructure.
Incheon has formally kicked off a long but tangible march toward becoming a regional business hub and center for research and development in Northeast Asia with a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an international convention center in Songdo.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance-Economy Minister Lee Hun-jai expressed Korea¡¯s concrete vision for the FEZ projects in front of CEOs of domestic and foreign companies. In the speech, he made it clear that the FEZ project is not just a slogan or dream but a concrete plan which has begun on a full-scale basis.
